Opening Round Breakdown

No. 5 Rockey Mountain vs No. 4 Carroll College

Carroll has two of the league’s top three scorers in Andrew Cook and Jonny Hillman. Senior, Brendan Temple continues to give them a post presence as well. The Fighting Saints were a Top 20 team for much of the 1st semester. They have some good wins still, including a win over 1-seed Montana Tech. Don’t think you can count any of these teams out. Rocky is led by Maxim Stephens who is 5th in the Frontier Conference in scoring. He is coming off of a 28pt outing against Montana Western and if Rocky is going to advance to the semifinals, Maxim will have to continue to put up big numbers, something he has struggled to do this season against them. Rocky lost all 3 games to Carroll this season. The unique part about this league is this will be the 4th time these teams play each other. There are no secrets here and it forces teams to really execute in order to win!

No. 3 MSU Northern vs No. 6 Montana Western

Jamal Stephenson is having a nice year for Montana Western as he finished the regular season 4th in the league in ppg. The Bulldogs come into this game as winners of 3 of their last 4 games, including a 4pt win over MSU-Northern on the 11th. They took 2 of 3 on the year vs Northern. Jesse Keltner and MSU Northern will look to end a 3-game losing skid coming into tonight. This is a team that has two Top 25 wins over The Master’s (CA) and Montana Tech. When they are good, they are GOOD! If they can put it together for three games, they are a team to watch out for in this tourney!
