Game Notes

It is Thanksgiving week and we had plenty of games to choose from for our NAIA Hoops Report Game of the Week, but as we say, conference games are just different, so sign us up for some Mason Walters and Gage Smith, Jamestown vs Concordia (NE) action tonight! Jamestown came into GPAC play as the favorites to win the league and even after the home loss to Dakota Wesleyan, it would be hard to argue that they aren’t still the favorites to win a GPAC Title. Mason Walters is once again putting up monster numbers and is on his way to being the 3x GPAC Player of the Year winner and when this team is shooting the ball from deep well, they are VERY tough to beat. Don’t tell that to Concordia though. The Bulldogs are playing with a chip on their shoulders right now and Gage Smith and Noah Schutte have been great early on! Even though they aren’t the biggest team in the country, they have so many interchangeable parts. They are tough to matchup up with as they space the floor. With their lack of size though, it will be interesting to see how they decide to defend Mason Walters tonight. He is tough to double-team because they have good shooters on the perimeter. However, he may go for 40+ if you try to guard him one-on-one. It’s the dilemma teams face when putting together their game plan for Jamestown. For tonight, we expect CUNE to throw some different things at Walters and Jamestown. Could see some traps off of the catch, off of one dribble, and even just playing straight up. Trying to keep Jamestown guessing on what is coming and slowing their attack. As mentioned, it will also be interesting to see how Jamestown elects to defend the CUNE offense. Ultimately you want to keep Mason Walters near the paint as a rebounder and rim protector, but that isn’t that easy with the “small ball” lineup of CUNE. Friedrich Arena isn’t an easy place to get a road win at, but Jamestown will be fired up for this one as they try to avoid a 1-2 start to GPAC play. CUNE, at 3-0 in the GPAC, can continue to make a statement with a big home win tonight! The stream does cost money to watch, but it should be worth every penny!
