Daily Dive: Another Big Weekend of NAIA MBB

Another weekend gave us plenty to talk about around NAIA men’s basketball. Georgia Gwinnett kept rolling. Oregon Tech and Southern Oregon each collected two wins against ranked opponents. College of Idaho answered with a strong weekend of its own. And Clarke has a story worth celebrating with a 5–0 start.

Top 25 Weekend Recap

Rankings below are from the October 21 NAIA preseason poll. This is a selection of verified results from November 6–7, not a complete national scoreboard.

Georgia Gwinnett keeps stacking wins

No. 18 Georgia Gwinnett came away with two more victories, beating St. Thomas 94–65 on Friday before taking down Tennessee Wesleyan 89–69 on Saturday. The Grizzlies are now 6–0.

Saturday showed a different way to get there. After trailing 43–41 at halftime, GGC used a 22–2 second-half run to take control. Josh Ray scored eight of his 16 points during that stretch, while Devontre Chaney finished with 15 points, nine rebounds and five assists.

Oregon Tech and Southern Oregon make their case

Two games against ranked opponents. Two wins apiece.

Oregon Tech followed Friday’s 89–87 victory over No. 17 The Master’s with a 74–62 win against No. 20 Hope International on Saturday. Southern Oregon matched that sweep, beating Hope 79–69 on Friday and The Master’s 82–76 on Saturday.

That’s a statement weekend for both programs and a reminder that the Cascade Conference is going to be a lot of fun to follow.

College of Idaho closes with defense

No. 16 College of Idaho beat Providence 85–61 on Friday and followed with a 66–50 win over Carroll on Saturday. The Yotes held both opponents below 62 points and finished with a combined 40-point margin across the two wins.

Eastern Oregon and Concordia handle business

No. 15 Eastern Oregon beat Dickinson State 79–61 on Friday, then defeated Bismarck State 90–62 on Saturday. No. 19 Concordia scored 113 in its Friday win over Maharishi International and 103 in Saturday’s victory over Judson. That’s 216 points across two games for the Bulldogs.

Clarke’s Historic Start

Five games. Five wins. A first for Clarke men’s basketball.

The Pride’s 5–0 start is the first in school history, and that deserves recognition. Before we get buried in rankings and conference races, take a moment to appreciate a program setting a new standard for its start to a season.

Congratulations to the players, staff and everyone around Clarke basketball. There’s a long season ahead, but this is already a memorable beginning.

The Running NHR RPI Sheet Is Live

Our running NHR RPI sheet is live, with verified games added as the evidence is checked. The current database contains 229 games involving 184 teams.

This is an independent NHR resource, not an official NAIA ranking. The inventory is still incomplete, and some teams do not yet have enough information for every calculation. Those gaps remain visible instead of being filled with invented numbers.

Bookmark it and follow along as the season develops. It’s a running database, not a real-time play-by-play feed.

Coming Later: Junior Ratings

The RPI sheet is one part of what we’re building. Junior Ratings are also in development, using an opponent-adjusted efficiency approach to give us another way to look at team performance.

We’re continuing to check inputs, test calculations and expand coverage before a public launch. There’s no launch date to announce yet. When it’s ready, we’ll explain what the ratings measure and how to use them alongside the games you’re watching.

More hoops. More context. More reasons to keep following the NAIA.
