Opening night gave us a school record from deep, a one-point Top 25 finish and plenty of names to keep an eye on. Now we turn the page to a Friday slate featuring No. 1 Grace, No. 3 Arizona Christian and two receiving-votes programs in our Games of the Day.
And later today, Darius Miles joins Road to Muni. Basketball is back. Let’s dive in.
Point rewrites the record book: 19 made threes
Nineteen. That is how many three-pointers Point knocked down in its 99–75 win over Selma. The Skyhawks announced a new single-game program record on their official men’s basketball Instagram, and the official box score backs it up: 19-for-39 from beyond the arc.
Robert Harris led the way with 24 points and six triples. Braylon Dame hit five, Deion Subaran added four, Trindon Manior made two, and Cahlib Edwards and Dylan Labuhn each connected once. Point finished with 24 assists on 37 made field goals.
That is not just one shooter getting hot. That is a lineup sharing the ball and making the defense pay.
Milligan’s opening points belonged to Jackson Simmons
Jackson Simmons put the first points on the board in Milligan’s opener. He made two free throws with 19:47 remaining in the first half to give the Buffaloes a 2–0 lead at Carolina. The official play-by-play shows Carolina’s Israel Griffin answering with a layup at 19:32 for the game’s first field goal. Milligan went on to win 90–65.
First wins in new seats
- Jake DuPree, LSUA: What a way to begin. The Generals beat No. 14 Loyola (La.), 85–84, with Andre Walker II delivering the go-ahead layup with five seconds left. This was DuPree’s first win at LSUA, not his first college head-coaching victory; his official biography details his previous two seasons leading Lourdes.
- Trent Scheer, Baker: The former Wildcat player and assistant opened his time leading the program with an 84–78 win over Haskell. Cam Jones supplied 20 points and nine rebounds, while Santana Flowers added 13 points and 12 boards. Baker’s coaching announcement and season schedule mark the beginning of the Scheer era.
- Ryan Sweeney, Columbia (SC): The Koalas gave their new head coach a winning start, beating Trinity College of Jacksonville (FL), 95–86, at the Godbold Center. Columbia broke a 42–42 halftime tie with 53 second-half points. The official game recap confirms the first-year coach’s season-opening victory; Sweeney was promoted to head coach in July.

Separate result — classification unresolved: Cal Lutheran beat No. 17 The Master’s, 98–96, according to the official Master’s box score. Cal Lutheran’s schedule labels the game an exhibition, while The Master’s describes it as its season opener. We are keeping this result separate from the regular-season scoreboard and performer comparisons until that discrepancy is resolved.
Still awaiting an official result: Community Christian College–Southwest at North American. No final score was posted on North American’s schedule at the latest check.
